About the Study

Freedom is one of today’s most polarizing topics, particularly in regards to what it is and what it should be.

Before we can understand different perspectives and disagree respectfully, we must first understand how we learned our beliefs and how they shape and limit our conversations with others who think differently.

Objectives

  • Discover whether members of the Butler community have thought about how they were taught to think about freedom

  • Explore how students perceive education and socialization about freedom to be different in countries outside the United States

  • Challenge the Butler community to grapple with their preconceived notions and consider how they influence their interactions with others
